Celebrate World Whisky Day with a Whisky Hot Toddy

Winter is coming and (importantly) so is whisk(e)y season!

You know the feeling, when it’s cold outside and you’re after a drink that warms you from the inside. If you’re reading this, you may already have a favourite way to drink whisk(e)y, but this World Whisky Day – Saturday, 21 May, we’ve got Fever-Tree’s brand ambassador, Trish Brew to share how best to enjoy a dram, with a bit of added pizzazz.

In terms of what’s trending in the world of whisky, classics are as cool ever. Trish says, “The undoubted king of whisky cocktails during the cold months is still the Whisky Hot Toddy for sure!”.

“That unmistakable combination of honey, whisky, a bit of spice, and a splash of lemon to balance whilst it's cold out... Absolutely unbeatable!”

But the good folk at Fever-Tree are all about mixing things up and adding a bit of a twist. So, for those after an extra kick, Trish recommends adding Fever-Tree’s Premium Ginger Beer for added wow factor.

Unsure how to master a Whisky Hot Toddy? Fear not, Trish has shared her best recipe at the end of this article – treat yourself and whip one up once you’ve made it to the end of this read.

Fever-Tree firmly believes that if ¾ of your drink is the mixer, then you should mix the best – and their Gingers range is no exception. With Fever-Tree’s Dry Ginger Ale, Spiced Orange Ginger Ale and Premium Ginger Beer, there’s now a mixer for every occasion, worthy of mixing with your favourite premium whisky.

Trish says, “The Fever-Tree Dry Ginger Ale plays such an amazing role as a supporting character to basically every kind of whisky(e)y! The three carefully selected, natural gingers we use uplift the subtle nuances in your whiskies, allowing your preferred whisk(e)y to really shine like nothing else.”

If you’re feeling a little more ambitious, Trish says the highball trend is still growing but has now really developed into so much more than just a whisk(e)y and soda.

To mix things up, Trish recommends a particularly fun and full-flavoured combination of Peated Whisky and Fever-Tree’s Italian Blood Orange Soda, topped off with a twist of lemon. We know what we’ll be mixing up this Saturday.

Trish attributes the recent rise of whisk(e)y’s popularity to the everyday whisky drinker upping the ante in the knowledge about what they’re drinking, with an increasing desire for more premium spirits and mixers across the board.

“As such, whisky drinkers have come to embrace the premium mixer category, experimenting with wild and wonderful flavour combinations. I mean, whisky & tonic is a thing now! Like I always say - If you like it, you're right because you're you!"
