Have heard a lot about Westland spirits and had the opportunity to stop in and do a tasting. The whiskey was outstanding as we relaxed in their comfy chairs. We would strongly recommend the whiskey made in the sherry casks. We brought a couple of bottles home. Worth the stop!
My wife and I were at Pike's Brewery and saw Westland Whiskey on the bar menu. Curious and being big single malt lovers we gave it a try. Incredible for such a young whiskey. When we found out the Distillery was only a few miles away, we went to pay a visit. The staff was incredible and basically gave us a private tour of the operation. We tasted each expression and enjoyed bottling our own cask strength which we loved. This is a great and easy stop and should be a must see if you like to drink a good whiskey! This is a new favorite for us now and they are a proud edition to our whiskey collection!
I really like what they are doing at Westland, the space is beautiful and the people at the Distillery are clearly passionate about what they do. 5 stars for that! I just personally think the whiskey is a little pricey for how young it still is, which is why Im only going with 4 stars. But the future is bright here, and they have a beautiful space which is well worth a tour!
This is a very unique distillery! They specialize in single malt whiskies that are impressively good! Worth a stop and tasting! Great service and friendly, informative staff. Good for small group private tastings as well.
OK, only three years, and you can tell. But he's pretty decent for that, no obstetrician or sourdough, like other mainlanders, not sprightly, and I'm a gooseberry fanatic, he's got something interesting of his own. 50 € are somewhat steep for the pure enjoyment, but still quite fair in relation to other (often worse) exotics and baby distilleries. (And the bottle looks really good on the shelf, even though it looks strange on pictures.)
This limited bottling of the young Italian distillery PUNI is a rich and full-bodied single malt with a convincing fruitiness and warming spiciness derived from thepinot noir casks. Although only three years of age, the rough edges of the new spirit are slightly present on the nose while this dram already shows good character and maturity on the palate.
$200.00 sold out
Nose - dried fruits followed by caramel and vanilla with smoke but not overpowering. Palate - citrus flavours smoke and all the dried fruit and flavours one would expect from Oloroso and American White Oak casks. Finish - a well balanced malt, mixed citrus and dried fruits with of course smoke. Possibly a little over priced.
Smooth up front, with vanilla and toffee, then turns complex and smoky, with a definite sherry-tinged finish.
Kilchoman pulls it out the bag again with Sanaig, an excellent whisky at a very reasonable price point - if I blind-tasted this I would swear it was an intensely rich, deep version of Bowmore. Taste profile leans quite towards the sherry side, making this a lip-smacking sherry monster. After an hour could still taste this.
