Longmorn is renowned for being a "distiller's favourite". A cult malt - Longmorn's fruity and sweet spirit is beloved by those whisky drinkers "in the know".
The distillery was founded in 1897 by John Duff, one of the whisky industry's great characters. Duff had previously attempted start a distillery in South Africa, before returning to Scotland to establish both Longmorn and its neighbour BenRiach. Duff was a busy man - he had also designed Glenlossie back in 1876.
Longmorn has had an important role to play in the whisky business, both in Scotland and in Japan. It was here that Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky, did his apprenticeship back in 1920. It is thought that the stills at Nikka's Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries were based on Longmorn!
