Nikka Whisky Distilling was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, who travelled to Scotland in 1918 to become the first Japanese whisky distillery to master distilling techniques used in Scotland. His learnings of distilling and blending were noted in two notebooks filled with every distilling and blending detail, which later became Japan’s very first guide in whisky production.
Today, Nikka are situated in the mountains of Yoichi and the oceans of Miyagikyo and produce the legendary Nikka Coffey Grain single malt and Nikka From The Barrel 51.4%. Both of which are a testament to the distillery, as an affordable and accessible entry point to both whisky and Japanese whisky.
