South Australia might be best known for its delicious wines, but whisky-making actually has a long and proud history in the state!
As far back as the 1890s, there have been distilleries producing whisky in both column and pot stills. Throughout the 20th Century, whisky was produced in the state in fits and starts, with some rare single malts (the likes of Smith's Angaston, for example) some of the most sought after in Australian whisky.
These days, new distilleries are opening up in SA all the time – with distillers seeking to take advantage of the state's abundance of world-class wine casks to produce delicious whiskies.
Here at Whisky Loot, we've selected some of the finest South Australian drams from Adelaide Hills Distillery and more!
