our tasting notes
Nose
It's summer now. Jammy overripe stone fruit like peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots. There’s sweet orange liqueur, runny honey, vanilla and a balance of clearly old oak.
Taste
So oily and dense in the mouth. Kids juice box oranges, overripe pineapple, honey and bright vanilla. Again balancing on the tongue with oak spice.
Finish
Fruity sugars remain on the palate for minutes. Slowly changing to develop a more tannic oak spice. With vanilla and biscuits
about
While Lowlands Scotch is often lighter and grassier. But this expression changes the equation - Bladnoch's inclusion of Californian Cab Sauv barrels introduces and a bright fruit salad of flavours and smells. This complements the usually delicate nature of the scotch to introduce a nuanced flavoursome whisky at roughly 8-9 years of age.
Diageo sold the distillery to Aussie Raymond Armstrong in 2003. Raymond had originally intended to use it as a holiday home and it was sold strictly for this purpose alone. However, after petitioning from both Raymond Armstrong and the local townsfolk, Diageo allowed production once more, though it may not exceed 100,000 litres per annum.
