our tasting notes

Nose

Christmas fruit cake sherry and sweet bourbon toffee with jammy brandy. Plus a burst of dried sugary fruits. But the bottle shows restraint, it's not an overpowering sherry bomb. It's balanced by the unique bourbon influence with lemon candy, vanilla sponge and an amazing hit of spice. Is that cardamon?

Taste

For such a high ABV (57.1%) this is remarkably easy. Incredibly dense in the mouthfeel, flavours of fruitcake return, with oodles of bittersweet dried fruit, malty chocolate and a gentle kitchen cabinet spice.

Finish

Incredibly long finish carried by a fig cake-like quality, with a sharp vanilla kick. Given the alcohol content, adding water brings out sharper fruits and brings it to a cranberry chocolate with brown sugar state. Though water is not needed, it's surprisingly delicate and spicy without.

about

Amrut shows off a true experiment. Whisky filled ex-bourbon barrels were shipped to Jerez to be filled in Oloroso sherry casks, before being shipped back to India for aging. Why? Shipping like this has stopped Amrut from having to employ flavour changing sulphuric preservatives on the barrels - ensuring nothing but natural flavour. The whisky is then finished back in ex-bourbon to mellow the punchy sherry flavours caused by the hot climate aging. Heavenly and so unique.

Definitely a great dram and worth trying.

just young and easy drinkable.

Light sherry, hints of citrus fruits, good sweetness but not sticky, no sulphur and no leather

Wow, that's a cool bottling!

After the ingenious Amrut Fusion, still an increase .... so slowly I am becoming a huge Amrut fan. Good for water. With 57.1% vol he has enough power to be diluted a bit. So it will in my opinion a bit rounder and opens more.

An incomparably beautiful spicy drink despite the heavy presence of Sherry is not overwhelming. a very good balance and a nice drink. Although it is to watch out when drinking, because of the high alcohol percentage you cannot really taste it.
