Only launched in 2012, Càrn Mòr has swiftly gained a reputation as one of the best lines of single barrel whisky in the business. Particularly, the quality of the company’s younger drams (such as this one) have been praised.
Here, they’ve selected a delicious whisky from BenRiach. A close neighbour of the Glen Elgin and Longmorn distilleries, BenRiach shares some of their fruity vibrancy, though becoming tropical with maturation.
Previously a central part of the Seagram’s blends for much of its history, the distillery was purchased in 2003 by former Blender Billy Walker, finally taking its rightful place as a high quality single malt.

A fruity-nutty nose typical of Oloroso Sherry casks, with aromas of walnut, nutmeg, vanilla, raisins, prunes, fresh plums. With time, some of BenRiach’s fresh peaches peek through.
Very full and vividly flavoured, packed with more dried fruits (cranberries and blackcurrants), caramelised orange rind and allspice, before dark oak and slightly drying leather take hold.
Extremely long, and with wet Sherried oak dominant, alongside sultanas, toasted malt, prunes and coffee bean, becoming drying and tannic as the finish lingers.
