A rarely seen single malt, Benrinnes is best known for its appearances in Diageo’s Flora and Fauna and, occasionally, their annual Special Release range. Indeed, this bottling originally formed part of the 2014 Special Releases.
For the most part, Benrinnes' distinctive style of weighty spirit has been ring-fenced for Diageo’s many blends, so it is a treat to be able to enjoy this dram as a malt whisky, and at such a great age.
As the distillery changed its distilling regimen in 2007, chances to try “old style” Benrinnes are increasingly rare, and should not be passed up.

Huge hits of Sherried dried fruits straight off the bat, with notes of dried figs, dates, prunes and apricot. A muscular sweet malt aroma comes through with time.
Extremely full bodied, with an almost meaty quality. The same thick Sherried character of the nose takes hold, bringing with it stewed fruits, vanilla and an astringent oak note.
Things soften a little here, with the long finish delivering notes of treacle tart, roasted nuts, cedarwood, stem ginger and fruit cake.
