Bruichladdich is unique in being the distillery on Islay to be producing unpeated whisky. This style has become their signature and in ‘The Classic Laddie’, head distiller Adam Hannett has tried to show off this unique style in all its pomp.
This is a single malt made from 100% Scottish barley and matured in only the finest American Oak. It is triple distilled and non-chill filtered and, before being bottled at 100 proof, it is proofed down with pure Islay spring water.
While there is no age statement, we do know that this whisky has been matured for its entire life by the shores of Islay’s famed Lochindaal. That coastal maturation comes through in its impressive flavors as sea salt mixes with a tropical fruit-filled sweetness and a gentle spicy finish.
This is a subtle and delicate single malts, traits not often bestowed on whiskies from Islay. But ‘The Classic Laddie’ is more than just a curiosity. It is the symbol of a distillery that has dared to do things different. It is a whisky that offers a taste of Islay beyond the peat. Fruity with notes of pears, honeydew melons, and apricots. That Scottish barley is in the mix too along with the faintest waft of an Islay sea breeze.
Luscious, rich, and packed with papaya, guava, and mango like a fruit cocktail on a Caribbean cruise. There is the gentlest hints of vanilla and cinnamon coming through here while all the while that gentle salinity still lingers.
The fruit fades to leave a sweet and indulgent finish with toffee, vanilla, and salted caramel.
