Made with a low-rye, corn-forward mashbill, and batched from no more than 40 barrels, this is one of the best made entry-level whiskies on the market. A superb introduction to Bourbon.

There has been a distillery at the Buffalo Trace site for at least 245 years, with the Frankfort location said to be the oldest continually operating distillery in the US. Across the years, it has had various names, including O. F. C. (“Old Fashioned Copper” – a reference to the distillery’s stills) and George T. Stagg Distillery.
It rechristened itself Buffalo Trace in 1999, after the nearby buffalo path that explorer Daniel Boone first followed when travelling around Kentucky. The eponymous whiskey was launched at the same time, and was an instant hit, setting a new standard for the quality of entry-level Bourbon.

Rich caramel and cinnamon spice entice the drinker, with aromas of red apples, soft rye spice and creamy vanilla emerging. Big, powerfully new oak takes hold later.
Candied apples and pears open up the palate, followed by bright fresh oak, cinnamon, vanilla, creamy honey and subtle rye bread. There’s a little mocha too.
Medium length, with freshly cracked black pepper, cinnamon, honey and drying oak. An excellent option for both new and seasoned Bourbon drinkers.
