A classic Speyside whisky from this often overlooked distillery. Cragganmore is a wonderful introduction to Scottish Single Malt whisky, with its refill Bourbon cask maturation ensuring the natural flavours of the spirit take centre stage. Cragganmore is known for its luscious juice, and this dram serves up flavours of rich malt, vanilla and flowers – the hallmarks of the region.

Cragganmore is one of those rare whiskies that possess terrific complexity at every age, which is the reason it is so beloved by whisky blenders.
This depth of flavour comes from a unique still set-up unlike anything found in Scotland. At Cragganmore, the wash stills (which perform the initial distillation) run into worm tub condensers - which are known for producing a thick, muscular spirit. The whisky is then distilled again in small, flat-topped spirit stills which also run into worm tubs, with the final product a powerful, weighty and fragrant new make. The use of very lightly peated malt also adds another layer of flavour.
Cragganmore is owned by Diageo, and such is the importance of the distillery to their blends (particularly the Johnnie Walker Black and Green Labels), this 12 year old expression is the only “official bottling” of single malt regularly available.

Beautiful and rich, with sweet, floral aromas emerging from the glass. Deep honey, vanilla, dried herbs and fresh, grassy malt. There’s a faint toasted almond note, adding complexity.
The softest touch of sweet peat introduces an earthy, mouth-coating malt, accompanied by flavours of toasted hazelnut and almond, light oak, sandalwood, peaches and fresh red berries.
Rather long and satisfying – notes of peppery spice, elegant peat smoke and malty biscuits linger.
I was surprised I enjoyed this whisky so much as I'm usually not up for sweet drinks or food. However, I loved the nose, the taste and for me it is the finish that really sets this whisky apart in the first three tasters. The finish lingers and is delightfully smokie.
This would have to be among the best scotches I've tried. Magnificent!
