This is an extremely rare single cask 16 year old from the Ben Nevis Distillery, bottled by independent bottler Douglas of Drumlanrig.
Single Cask #390
The Ben Nevis distillery sits at the foot of Scotland’s iconic Ben Nevis mountain in Fort William at the very centre of the highlands. It is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland and best known for its 10-year old expression. But under the ownership of Japanese distillers Nikka, they have released a number of older expression to independent bottlers.
This 16-year old single cask, bottled by Douglas of Drumlanrig, is one of these limited releases. It has been matured for 16-years in American Oak ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled at cask strength.
As well as being pretty rare, this is a distinct and special single malt which offers everything you would expect from a top-of-the-range Highland whisky. This one is best enjoyed neat or with the smallest splash of water to bring out the distinctive tropical fruit sweetness that permeates throughout.

Floral and grassy bringing the Scottish moors to mind before bringing though a rich sweetness with hints of vanilla and toffee apples
Floral again before a burst of fruity sweetness with apples, passion fruit, and kumquat bursts through with an underlying vanilla adding sweetness throughout.
Long, gentle, and balanced with the fruity tones fading while the sweetness remains.
