A delicious Japanese blended malt, containing spirit from Ichiro Akuto’s highly acclaimed Chichibu distillery, alongside rare whisky from the lost Hanyu distillery (originally built by Ichiro’s grandfather). This dram has been aged in French oak wine barrels, imparting dark chocolate, spice and fruity flavours to the spirit.

Details

Chichibu is one of the most exciting distilleries in Japan. Founded by Ichiro Akuto, who has been called the “rockstar” of Japanese whisky, who made his name bottling stocks from his grandfather’s Hanyu distillery – some of which have sold for record prices. You’ll find some of that famous spirit in this bottling, alongside younger whisky from Chichibu, resulting in a well balanced blended malt.

Tasting notes

Nose

Instantly inviting with aromas of fresh raspberries and strawberry jam. There’s some wine, and a little Pinot-style black pepper spice. A wave of fragrant French oak rounds things out.

Taste

Full bodied and rich, serving up flavours of red berries, fudgy chocolate, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla and nutmeg. A little caramelised orange zest provides balance.

Finish

Extra-long and luscious. Lip-smacking wine tannins, drying oak, raisins and tangy citrus rind linger on the palate.
