First created in 1937 by Shinjiro Torii, Suntory's founder and first Master Blender, this was initially named "Suntory Whisky," but became lovingly known as Kakubin, or "square bottle", due to its unique presentation. That name and the square-cut, tortoise-shell design have remained for more than eighty years.
