One of many long lost Irish whiskey brands that have recently been revived, the company date back to 1779. This is a 10 year old Irish single malt, produced in small batches and aged in charred oak. The dram has been presented free from chill-filtration and at 46%, for added depth and body.
As stated on the label, Kinahan’s was once the favourite of the Lord Lieutenant (essentially the Governor General) of Ireland during the time of the British Empire. The LL branded barrel featured in the design is a reference to the lot that the Lord had set aside for his consumption.
Kinahan’s developed an excellent reputation in the 19th century, largely due to the care and attention they devoted to maturation. Like many Irish whiskies, the name died out in the 1900s following the downturn of the distilling industry. Luckily for us, Kinahan’s is back, having been relaunched in 2015 at Trinity Street, Dublin, the site of their original triumphs.

This dram pours a beautiful clear gold. The nose is forward and fruity, with notes of peaches and cream, cut melon, some raisins, sugared barley and vanilla biscuits.
Oily and mouth-coating, with ripe flavours of blackcurrant, cherries, apples and cinnamon sticks. A strong core of oak and malt reminds you that yes, this is an Irish single malt!
Long and sweet with lasting allspice and dark chocolate flavours. One of the better single malts to come out of the Irish distilling revival.
