Kings County Distillery is New York City's oldest operating whiskey distillery and the first distillery in New York City since Prohibition. Working out of a 117-year old Paymaster Building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on the banks of the East River, they have built an impressive reputation for their bourbon and moonshine.
But now they have turned their considerable talents towards making a single malt whisky in exactly the same way they do in Scotland.
This single malt is made using malted barley sourced from Scotland or England. It is twice distilled in traditional Scottish pot stills, then aged in King County’s own bourbon barrels for anything from 1.5 to 4 years.
It is bottled at a pretty fierce 47% but the result is a whiskey that definitely holds its own alongside plenty of NAS Scotches.
With a complex flavour and just a hint of peat in the mix, there is plenty to enjoy either neat or over ice. This single malt is a long way from what you would expect from an American whiskey and a real collectors item.

Floral and fragrant. Packed with heather and hay with hints of peak smoke coming through too.
Fruity and sweet with masses of honey and butterscotch blended with apricots and oranges. A gentle oak spice and that peat add a slight edge.
Medium length. The sweetness eases to leave some peat and a little more citrus fruit.
