Clermont, Kentucky, USA
This whiskey first hit the market in 1992, right at the start of America’s now burgeoning Bourbon renaissance. Knob Creek perhaps helped blaze the trail that so many other bottlings have now followed, with its high proof and age statement introducing many drinkers to a more intensely flavoured Bourbon.
It doesn’t hurt that this dram has a strong, presidential history, taking its name from Abraham Lincoln’s childhood homestead. It was also nearly the location of his demise – with the future president almost drowning in the Creek itself.

A rich, oaky nose, with notes of fresh sawdust, dark caramel, and vanilla upfront. Spicier aromas of cinnamon, powdered cloves and nutmeg soon follow.
Very full bodied on the palate, with velvety, fruity flavours of caramelised apple and pear coming to the fore. Cracked black pepper, toasted oak and cinnamon add warmth.
Long and decadent, with some sweet walnut and peanut notes emerging, alongside a little warm leather, liquorice and drying oak.
