The whiskey takes its unusual name from an old cask management practice, with barrels daubed with different colours depending on their aging potential. Barrels destined to age 12 years were given a ‘Yellow Spot’. This Irish Single Pot Still dram has been aged in Sherry, Malaga wine and ex-Bourbon casks.
Cork, R.I., Ireland
The older sibling to the beloved Green Spot Irish Whiskey, Yellow Spot kicks up the age and complexity a notch.
Produced by the famed Midleton Distillery in County Cork, Yellow Spot is a classic triple-distilled Irish Single Pot Still whiskey. The whiskies were originally produced by the Mitchell family, a wine merchants in Dublin who would purchase, age and bottle their own Irish whiskey.
Following a downturn in the fortunes of Irish whiskey, all but Green Spot died out in the 1960s. Thankfully for us (and for drinkers around the world) Yellow Spot was relaunched in 2012 and swiftly reclaimed its Spot (see what we did there?) as one of the top Irish whiskies around!
