Masataka Taketsuru is famed for his intrepid journey to Scotland, seeking to discover the Scots’ secrets of distillation. After apprenticeships at Longmorn and Hazelburn, he returned to Japan, complete with a new Scottish wife, and had a key role to play in the development of both of Japanese whiskies titans: Suntory and Nikka.
This is a fitting tribute to one of the truly great figures of world whisky history, aged for 21 years in oak casks. Japan’s shortage of well-matured whisky is well documented, with bottlings like this dram increasingly hard to find.
