The North British Distillery is Edinburgh’s last remaining working distillery and also one of the few in Scotland that specialises in grain whisky. Much of their output goes into famous blended whisky brands like Johnnie Walker, Famous Grouse, and Cutty Sark. But they do occasionally release a few single grain batches to independent bottlers and when these bottlings appear they are always sought-after by lowland whisky fans.
The Ten is a series of ten bottlings from La Maison du Whisky which are intended to represent the different styles of Scotch whisky. They chose the North British as an ideal initiation into Scottish single grain and we can see why.
This is a light and delicate whisky but with some subtle and complex flavours. It’s easy to drink and can be enjoyed just as well neat as with a splash of water or a cube of ice. It’s fine aperitif to a good meal too. A must-try for grain whisky aficionados or those keen to try.

Gentle with delicate floral tones underlying a rich sweetness reminiscent of apple pie and fresh vanilla custard.
Mild and again fruity with apples, pears, and hints of lemon and lime. The vanilla sweetness continues too and is complimented by a delicate spiciness with hints of cardamom and cinnamon.
Surprisingly sharp and tangy with more fruit and spices. Short.
