One of the more short-lived distilleries in Speyside whisky history, Pittyvaich was operational for just 18 years. During this time it released just one “official” single malt, back in 1991. The distillery had been constructed by famous blenders Arthur Bell and Sons (located next door to their Dufftown Distillery), and largely produced spirit for blends throughout its history.
Following a period of consolidation in the industry, Pittyvaich was considered surplus to requirements, and closed in 1993, before being finally demolished in 2002.
The old saying “you don’t know what you’ve got till its gone” proved correct in this instance, with the distillery’s spirit increasingly sought after, whilst diminishing in stock. There can be few better bottlings from the Speysider than this 29 year old Sherried offering.

Surprisingly fresh and malty considering the age statement, with gradually building aromas of dusty oak, orange zest, dried fruit and potpourri.
Full bodied, and more assertive than the nose, with tannic black tea, Sherried oak, fresh ginger, raisins, toffee, honeyed oatcakes, and freshly buttered toast.
A medium-long finish brings a little more fudgy depth, with lingering bittersweet chocolate, dates and caramelised red apples.
