Puni ALBA, a funky little Italian malt which lit the world on fire last year. Taking advantage of their location, this drop spent most of its life in Sicilian Marsala barrels but then to really push the limit they headed toward Scotland, to a little distillery known as Laphroaig (heard of it?). With barrels in hand, the headed back to Italy and finished their sweet Marsala aged malt in rich Laphroaig barrels (and you can taste it).
South Tyrol, Italy
ABV: 43%
The Puni distillery (Italy's first) takes its name from the nearby Puni river, which flows through the Vinschgau valley. Similar to Scottish distilleries, which very often have gaelic names, Puni is an ancient raetic name, deeply rooted in the local history. Alba - the Italian word for dawn, as well as the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland, is matured for three years in the finest Marsala casks from Sicilly and finished in hand selected casks from the Isle of Islay.

Ripe plum and herbal rye notes. Slightly salty with some rich dried fruits dominating the glass.
Surprisingly rich, dark jam is the first note, but the Laphroaig barrels is immediately obvious (but not dominant). Floral wheat notes toward the finish.
Sweet vanilla, plum jam and touches of that Laphroaig herbal complexity keep with dram exciting.
We only deal directly with distilleries.
