After the British placed a tax on malt usage in Ireland, resourceful Irish distillers replaced a portion of the barley in their whiskey with unmalted grain. As ever, necessity is the mother of creation, and this change of recipe produced a new style of whiskey, distinctively Irish – known as Single Irish Pot Still.
This magnificent bottling, from the Midleton Distillery (which also produces the globally popular Irish whiskey sensation, Jameson) is one of the finest examples of the Single Irish Pot Still category.
This whiskey is aged exclusively in first-fill Oloroso sherry and former Bourbon casks, and at 21 years old, has had plenty of time to develop complex, deep flavours.

Opens up tropical, with strong fragrances of grilled pineapples, peaches, mango and bananas, eventually subsiding to reveal richer Sherried notes of forest fruits and spice.
Oily and mouth-coating, with an array of spiced dark fruits: plums, cherries and strawberries, joined by some peanut butter and salted caramel.
Some zesty orange and lemon rind comes through on this medium length finish, alongside a lingering lip-smacking polished oak and toasted malt bread flavour.
