Sazerac Whiskey comes from the Buffalo Trace stable and is named for the famous Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans, said to be the birthplace of the Sazerac cocktail. This drink is thought to be the original American cocktail.
The Sazerac cocktail was initially made with Cognac, but a blight on French grapes in the late 19th Century meant bartenders looked closer to home when mixing up this famous libation. They reached for rye – then America's most popular whiskey – to bridge the gap.
This is a fitting tribute to the Sazerac legacy. Incidentally, the bartender credited with first recording the cocktail is Thomas H. Handy, now honoured with his own rye whiskey from Buffalo Trace.

A classic rye whiskey nose, with heaps of spicy aromas. Notes of grated ginger, black pepper, and cloves are balanced by orange rind and toffee.
Medium bodied and warming, with more rye spices, supported by some fresh garden herbs, charred oak, vanilla, toffee and apple pie.
Long and spicy with drying oak, liquorice and toasted baking spice replacing the earlier sweetness.
