A rye whiskey full of sweetness and spice. Remarkably Moorish.
Sazerac Whiskey comes from the Buffalo Trace stable and is named for the famous Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans, home to the Sazerac cocktail.
This impressive rye whiskey is sometimes referred to as ‘baby saz’ which is a reference to its 18-year old sibling. But while it lacks some qualities that come with an additional 12 years of maturation, this is still a hugely impressive dram and comes from the same mashbill make-up as its older sibling; approximately 51% rye, 39% corn and 10% malt.
The higher corn content means this Rye whiskey is rather sweeter than many of its namesakes and for a 6-year old, it is really very impressive. The sweetness is to the fore but it doesn’t exclude the other flavours and there is plenty of complex spice and even a little smoke in the mix too.
Sazerac 6 Year Old is a rye whiskey with a difference and aficionados will be fascinated to see how much a rye whiskey can stray from the standard. This is rye whiskey you will return to again and again.

The nose and delivery are just about as good as it gets. Grated ginger, black pepper, and mixed peels permeating a treacle sweetness.
Toffee, caramel, and vanilla pile in at the start but are quickly followed by a sharp orange marmalade, cinnamon, and cloves. At the end, there is an unmistakable twang of charred oak too.
Big and spicy with the sweetness departing fast to leave warmth and complexity behind.
