Found in the heart of Speyside, Speyburn distillery draws its water from the crystal clear Granty Burn.
The distillery was one of the myriad established during the “Whisky Boom” of the late 1800s. Like many of its fellows, it was designed by Charles Doig, an expert distillery architect, who had a hand in no less than 56 different distilleries in Scotland.
Speyburn remains an old fashioned distillery: the stillhouse has not changed much since Charles Doig’s day, and worm tub condensers continue to be used (producing a rather meaty new make which calms with maturity to become fragrant and sophisticated).
This non age stated dram is an excellent showcase of the distillery’s spirit style, with the American oak casks allowing the natural qualities of this whisky to shine through.

A light maltiness greets the drinker, alongside subtle floral aromas, grassy hay, toffee apples and a little freshly cut oak.
Light and refreshing, with gentle flavours of apples, pears, creamy vanilla custard, lightly toasted oak and nutmeg. A muscular malt holds everything together.
Rather long, despite the lightness of the spirit, with spiced Crème Brûlée, oak tannins and a little cracked black pepper.
