Starward Distillery have teamed up with iconic Barossa wine producers Yalumba to create an epic rendition of Starward’s classic red wine barrel whisky style. This juicy single malt has been aged exclusively in barrels that formerly held in Yalumba’s “The Octavius” Shiraz. Known for its smaller 100L cask maturation, these former Octave Barrels allowed Starward to create a dram with a depth of flavour that we have never seen before. An extremely limited release - ensure you don’t miss out.
Starward Distillery is all about celebrating great Australian produce – using 100% Aussie barley and Australian red wine barrels for their whiskies. This new Octave Barrel expression continues that tradition by sourcing barrels from the iconic Yalumba Winery - specifically small 100L casks that previously held their esteemed “The Octavius” Barossa Shiraz.
These smaller American oak barrels aged this dram far more intensely. The reduced cask size creates more interaction between wood and spirit, allowing this single malt to soak up more of the celebrated Octavius Shiraz characteristics as it came to maturity. The Octave Barrels are somewhat of a poetic collaboration, the very first batch of Starward Whisky ever made was almost exclusively aged in former Yalumba red wine barrels. Here we are many years later with a dram that gives a nod to Starward’s origins.
This release is a part of the Starward Projects program - experiments by the distilling team at Starward with different whiskies to create flavour forward and unique expressions. Each release is limited and once it’s sold out, it’s gone. Get it while you still can.

A textural delight - thick and creamy. The barrel origins are evident here with dark forest fruits, lightly tannic red wine notes and a toasted oak backbone.
Medium-long in length with plenty of toasted marshmallows, pencil shavings and baking spices on the slow drying finish.
