The Starward distillery in Melbourne began life as the vision of founder David Vitale, who dreamt of creating a high-end multi-faceted Australian whisky that reflected his home city and its eclectic climate.
Twelve years in and the Starward Two-Fold Double Grain Whisky is the result of his endeavours. It is some achievement. Two-Fold is a combination of malted barley and Australian wheat which has been matured in Australian red wine barrels.
Those red-wine flavours and colours can be found throughout this elegant whisky along with a buttery richness and gentle oak spice.
Two-Fold is both complex and clean and can be enjoyed almost any way. Whisky fans will likely opt to enjoy it neat or over an ice cube or two, but Two-Fold works equally well with mixers and in cocktails too. Starward recommends trying it with a splash of tonic and suggests it might just tempt you to bin the gin.
However, you enjoy it, enjoy it you will. And you will be in good company. This one has just been awarded the title of Best Australian Blended Whisky at World Whiskies Awards 2019.

Characteristics of a Canadian whisky, with hints of banana bread, vanilla bean, figs and a strong tropical fruit influence.
Soft and sweet with notes of banana cake, toffee, vanilla-wafer biscuit and light cocoa. The sweetness is tempered by spices and delicate tannins in the mouth.
Long finish, with cinnamon sugar and peppercorn towards the end.
