It’s no secret that the Japanese whisky industry is suffering from a shortage of aged stock, making bottles like this delicious 17 year old Hibiki from Suntory all the more remarkable and rare. This dram is made with a particularly high proportion of malt whisky from Suntory’s Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, The grain spirit used has been sourced from their Chita distillery, and the blend has been aged in an array of casks, including Japanese Mizunara oak.
Please note this bottle is now discontinued by Suntory and comes as pictured, with the original distillery seal, without a gift box.
Hibiki translates from Japanese as “Harmony”, and is a fitting title for this perfectly poised dram. Each bottle has 24 sides, representing the 24 hours of the day, but also the 24 seasons of the traditional Japanese calendar.
It’s thought that over 30 different kinds of single malt from Suntory’s distilleries are used in the creation of this whisky, with an average age much higher than that of the 17 year age statement.

Fragrant and honeyed, with aromas of fresh flowers, clear runny honey on malt toast, sandalwood, coconuts, a little bittersweet chocolate, waxed oak and roasted nuts.
