A fascinating whisky from the Skye distillery, bottled for the Diageo 2020 Special Releases. For the first time in the distillery’s long and storied history, Talisker has been finished in a Caribbean pot still rum cask. The result is a remarkable whisky – with the funky sweetness of the rum complementing Talisker’s natural peppery peat and coastal character perfectly.
Beloved by whisky drinkers around the world, Talisker is one of the most prestigious distilleries in Scotland, truly worthy of “cult malt” status.
The oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye, for many decades Talisker stood alone, until it was joined by Torabhaig in 2017. Talisker originally practiced triple distillation, which would have created a much lighter character than we know today. Whilst this style is no longer continued, its remnants are visible in Talisker’s unique still set-up, with more spirit stills than wash stills.
Talisker produces a medium peated spirit, with a gentler smoke than is found across the water at Islay, and is known for its peppery, maritime profile. A central member of Diageo’s ‘Classic Malts’ range, the distillery provides some peated malt whisky for the company’s vast array of blends.
This 8 year old bottling is a throwback to the legendary 8 year old expressions of the 1980s and 90s. The rum cask finish adds a totally new dimension to the famous distillery’s spirit, and is a must-try for Talisker fans.

Immediate thick treacle and tropical fruits (grilled pineapple, mango bark and bananas) are followed by a rush of thick peppered peat, and a wave of sea spray.
A full, dense body offers classic Talisker flavours: white pepper, sea salt and maritime peat. Then the rum arrives, with smoked pineapple, treacle tart, caramelised mango and brown sugar.
Extremely long, with toasted cinnamon and pepper spice, well-integrated with sweet smoke and lingering rich molasses.
