Not too bad all round

I gave the Scotch a 4 star and the other 2 3.5 stars. I thought the Koval would of been a bit spicier but was nice and got better reviews from family members and for the price would be a good gift. I prefer Scottish whiskys so they will always win out but not a bad pack for the month. Different tastes that made me think of the flavors and how they felt which is always good. Patiently waiting for the next Loot!

I've had better.

I'm not generally a big fan of bourbon cask whiskies. These were relatively good. The bourbon, was surprisingly pleasant. Probably due to the high millet content. Shelter point wasn't too bad, but wasn't as good as the hype around the distillery.

Wolfburn Langskip

👈 swipe 👉
Back to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 for this conclusion to #MiniatureMonday. Wolfburn is one of those iconic whisky names - based in Thurso they are again the mainland's northernmost distillery. The NAS Wolfburn Langskip, is a purportedly 6yo expression - which would make it the oldest of their bottlings if true;

AGE - ❌ technically a NAS
ABV - 📍 58%
NCF - 📍 accepted at that ABV
NAC - 📍 straw coloured
V4M - 📍 in the $120AUD range;

I have a #no270 - which I love. But lets be clear - this is far superior. That near cask strength ABV is a kicker. So Highland, so honey'd so layered and packed full of obvious potential. Is it young and a little unbridled? Yes - of course. Will it or something like it one day come of age and rock our world? Absolutely. This is matured in first fill bourbon ... which is immediately obvious.
Nose: flamed sugar and vanilla notes. Heather. Honey. Biscuity malt.
Palate: thick. Creamy. Oily with spicy dried fruit and stone fruits like nectarines and peach. Some clove heat under spivy notes of nutmeg and cinnamon.
Finish: long. Warming. Caramel and fruit notes.
A really enjoyable sample from the folk at whiskyloot and an inviting bottle to track down.

Bourbon cask not my thing

Absolutely love the whisky loot and will always be a member especially due to price and variety. Unfortunately this month was not my thing being bourbon cask but be well assured I always recommend to friends and family.
