One of the most historic distilleries in Scotland, the Glenlivet was the first distillery in the Highlands (as Speyside was at the time) to receive a distilling licence, way back in 1824.
The act enraged the local illicit distillers, to the point where George Smith (Glenlivet’s first distiller) carried a pair of pistols for his protection.
These days, things are a lot calmer at the Glenlivet Distillery, which is now home to one of the most popular single malt brands in the world. Indeed, the distillery’s popularity was so high, that at one point other producers in Speyside added the suffix “Glenlivet” to their spirit, to suggest a similar quality and style, until lawsuits put a stop to the practice.
Glenlivet’s whisky is known for having a lighter, floral and fruity profile with notes of apple, pear and pineapple often prominent.

Classic ‘Livet caramelised apples and fresh-cut pears are immediately apparent. Smells of an orchard with orange blossom and peaches, with a touch of richness from toffee.
Decidedly sweet, with dark floral honey, pineapple in syrup, barley sugar and vanilla bean notes. Some subtle lemon and lime oils provide brightness and balance.
Medium in length with the fresh pear returning and supported by flavours of dried mint, candied ginger and drying oak sawdust.
