One of Speyside's youngest distilleries - Tomintoul is quickly becoming a favourite of reviewers and experts alike. Barley driven, Non chill filtered and without added colourants, this malt is hailed as an excellent expression from a undiscussed distiller.
Tomintoul refers to 21 year old single malt as “the gentle dram” and it won’t take you long to realise why when you taste it.
The Tomintoul distillery is located on the Glenlivet Estate in the heart of Speyside. The nearby village of Tomintoul is actually the highest village in the Highlands.
It is a relatively young distillery having only been founded in 1964 but has quickly developed a reputation for high-quality malts that live up to the rich Speyside reputation.
Their 21-year old single malt is a relatively new addition to their portfolio but it perfectly captures the essence of what makes Tomintoul single malts special.
It has been aged in bourbon casks for 21 years and is gives all the subtle floral flavourings of a Speyside single malt with a real depth of flavor.
If you are a peat head or like strong flavors, this isn’t the dram for you. But if you like to sit back and roll and a subtle and complex whisky around your mouth, you will relish this one.
