Named after one of the legends of the Bourbon industry, William Larue Weller, this bottling is produced in the wheated style of whiskey he devised. With wheated whiskey, wheat replaces rye as the flavouring grain. This makes for a less spicy, more chewy and approachable whiskey, often featuring bready flavours. Weller Reserve is made to the same Buffalo Trace recipe as the illustrious Pappy van Winkle.
Frankfort, Kentucky, USA
William Larue Weller was a third generation distiller, who is said to have been the man who first developed wheated Bourbon recipes, during his time as a whiskey wholesaler. He’s also renowned for being the man that hired the famous distiller, Julian ‘Pappy’ Van Winkle, making whiskey history!
To this day Weller is honoured by Buffalo Trace as one of their “legendary people”, with the company producing not only these popular Weller whiskies, but a high quality annual William L. Weller Barrel Proof bottling, as part of their Buffalo Trace Antique Collection.
This dram, bottled at the warming strength of 45% ABV, is an excellent introduction to the Weller style of wheated Bourbon.
