Portland, Oregon, USA
Made in part as a tribute to Oregon’s Willamette Valley wine country, known for its ability to produce superb Pinot Noir, this is a rich and decadent dram. Indeed, Westward’s whiskies have an excellent sense of place, using a base of Pacific Northwest two-row barley.
Westward is a firmly American distillery, but its production methods owe a lot to Scotch whisky. Spirit is double distilled in copper pot stills, and made in the traditional single malt style. The distillery adds its own twists: the use of ale yeast in fermentation produces a spirit of a different character, whilst the Oregon climate of wet winters and warm, dry summers ensures accelerated maturation.
