A delicious small batch whisky from mainland Scotland’s most northerly distillery. This single malt has been matured in a combination of first-fill, half-sized, Bourbon barrels, and second-fill Oloroso Sherry casks, producing a characterful final product. The whisky is totally unpeated, offering a softer iteration of the North Highland style. Just 5,500 bottles were produced.
Batch No. 375 is actually the third expression in Wolfburn’s excellent series of small batch whiskies.
The original Wolfburn Distillery was constructed in 1821, but was reduced to ruins by the time the 1870s rolled around, having most likely closed in 1837. The distillery was rebuilt in 2012, with the first whisky trickling from the stills in January 2013.
Whilst still in its fledgling stages as a distillery, Woflburn’s style can be described as nutty, fruity and slightly sweet, with occasional peated releases offering another dimension.
